Sam D’Angelo opened Tomato Pie on March 4, 2019 with a passion for pizza made from scratch with the old world flair. His grandmother and father opened Little Sicily in 1941? It was one of the first Italian Pizza Restaurants in downtown Grand Rapids on Division Ave. Every detail from the dough recipe, house made red sauce, and the gourmet toppings are made with excellence in mind.
Sam & Joseff have been friends but neither one of them thought that in the middle of a Global Pandemic two families came together. Sam & Joseff VanHorn have merged into one company. Joseff VanHorn the owner of YoChef’s Catering Company and YoChef’s Café has the passion for food and the drive to take it to the next level. Joseff brings his 30 years of hospitality experience to Tomato Pie and vows to keep Sam’s favorite recipes sacred and to stay true to upholding the quality of each and every pie.
Sam has passed his knowledge to Joseff and now it is Joseff’s passion that will make Tomato Pie one of the BEST Gourmet Pizza Places in Grand Rapids. COVID has cast a shadow over us but it can not take our passion for food away from us.
Sam is going to get a copy of the original menu and I would like to put that on the website as a tribute to history.
